All Orange and Riverside County shelter-in-place orders lifted for brush fire in San Juan Capistrano
The 250-acre brush fire burned along the Orange-Riverside County line.
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (KABC) -- A fast-moving brush fire in San Juan Capistrano triggered shelter-in-place orders for some Orange and Riverside County residents on Wednesday.
The Gibby Fire started at about three acres around 2 p.m., but quickly grew to 150 acres, according to the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA).
Less than half an hour later, OCFA said the fire had grown to 450 acres and was burning at a moderate-to-rapid rate of spread. In a later update, the fire was re-mapped at 216 acres.
By Wednesday evening, crews managed to stop forward progress at 250 acres.
The fire was burning in the area of Ortega Highway and Gibby Road. OCFA said crews would remain at the scene for mop-up and patrol.
All shelter-in-place orders issued for parts of Orange County and Riverside County were lifted around 8 p.m.
Ortega Highway (SR-74) was closed eastbound at Gateway in Rancho Mission Viejo and westbound at Grand in Lake Elsinore.
